I'm half Filipino and half British and go visit my family in Philippines nearly every summer… I always feel awkward since they all talk in Tagalog and I really don't understand anything and they don't really talk in English to me much though they do know a bit but are too shy… I really need help in learning Tagalog!
Wikipedia says : "Filipino (formerly Pilipino) is an Austronesian language that is the de facto standardized version of Tagalog, though is de jure distinct from it."
How is it distinct? And why the change from Pilipino to Filipino?
Filipino is the official language in the Philippines and I know it is based from Tagalog. Could you pls specify its difference, its description?
What are your suggestions for learning tagalog, I can get the gist of what they are saying, but I am not certain. Can't really speak it either
Thanks Po!
